How to Get Started With GAINSWave®/shockwave therapy
Comprehensive Approach to ED
A multi-pronged approach is often most successful in treating erectile dysfunction and we evaluate each case of ED based on a four-pronged approach. Our clinic concentrates on addressing chronic conditions (i.e. heart disease, obesity, sleep apnea and diabetes) that can contribute to ED, evaluating the possible role of hormones (i.e. testosterone), optimizing ED medications, and utilizing regenerative therapies like low-intensity shockwave therapy (aka GAINSWave) or the P-Shot.
Shockwave/Gainswave Therapy
GAINSWave, also known as shockwave therapy, utilizes low-intensity sound waves to increase vascular networks and the endothelial function of blood vessels in the penis. Over forty published studies show low-intensity shockwave can improve the quality and firmness of erections and enhance responsiveness to medication. Our clinic is committed to using evidence-based, focused shockwave therapy protocols designed to optimize efficacy, safety and results.
Peyronie's Disease
Peyronie’s Disease is the development of scar tissue or plaque inside the penis that causes curvature, painful erections and often contributes to erectile dysfunction. Persistent cases of Peyronie’s Disease may require various interventions including intra-plaque injections, oral medications, stretching exercises and, in extreme cases, surgery. Our clinic offers a non-surgical approach - shockwave therapy - which can help break up plaque or scar tissue and improve perfusion or blood flow to areas of restriction or indentation. PRP is often combined with shockwave therapy.
Role of Testosterone in ED
Because ED is primarily a vascular issue, not a hormonal one, the role of testosterone is not always a direct indication of a man’s erectile function. Testosterone levels are merely one variable that may contribute to this multi-variable condition. Nevertheless, low testosterone is associated with high blood pressure, obesity, heart disease and type 2 diabetes - all common risk factors for ED because they can compromise blood flow to the penis. Our clinic works with patients to assess testosterone levels and determine appropriate treatments.
The P-Shot
The Priapus Shot, or P-Shot, harnesses the power of platelet-rich plasma to improve erectile function - enhancing penile sensation and improving vascularity (i.e. blood flow) often leading to more frequent, firmer and more easily maintained erections. The P-Shot involves separating the growth factors from a patient’s blood, and then re-injecting this super-charged plasma back into the corpus cavernosum of the penis. This procedure stimulates tissue regeneration and the formation of new vascular networks. The P-Shot is an extremely safe procedure and is commonly combined with shockwave therapy for synergistic treatment.
